The general process: HR phone screen, hiring manager phone screen, in-person round, take home, final in-person round.
The good: the recruiter and coordinator were easy to work with. The recruiter was always forthcoming, warm, and friendly. The coordinator worked with my schedule, which can be chaotic given that some of us interviewing for new jobs already have full time jobs of our own. The hiring manager seemed to have lots of practical experience; speaking with the hiring manager was usually conversational and professional in nature. I enjoyed working with these three individual throughout the recruiting process.
The bad: Preparing for particular interviewers proved difficult at best, useless at worse. With each onsite, nearly half of each scheduled interviewer either did not show up or were replaced with someone else. For the take home panel interview, I was also told to prepare for an executive level presentation. However, the defense panel consisted primarily of technically-oriented staff, who mostly had very technical questions.
The ugly: I can understand that I was rejected because of a number of reasons, perhaps including not having the right skills. To me, that doesn't permit interviewers to treat candidates with disrespect and condescension. I've never felt more unwelcome during any interview process. I have never been through a process before where interviewers openly mocked or ridiculed me.
