Very drawn out, leave you hanging, demands a lot out of you without much in return. Basically they have a phone interview 15 minutes, then a skype interview 40 minutes, then you need to do a really intense 3 hour thing called the gauntlet. These are all scheduled seperately and you will probably need to take a day off work to do the gauntlet, at least. The Gauntlet involves you answering very technical questions that customers have asked, without any training whatsoever on how to answer them. I answered them all perfectly in about 2 hours, and I had three to complete them. Had to do on the fly research while completing it. You submit your answers to the question, then they send back their feedback, suggestions and you try again. During the interview process itself they are very encouraging and really make you feel like you are going to get the job, but I read on a r/ottawa reddit post where the CEO Tobias posted that they actually only hire 0.8% of applicant, so over 99% of applicants are rejected but the interviewer Mike really made me feel as if there was a very good chance of me getting the position and described all the awesome benefits of the company and got really buddy-buddy I guess you could say. It was a very frustrating experience because they totally play hot and cold with you, I don't understand their hiring process at all, they really seem to not have any concern with leading people on quite a bit and then after this person has made serious sacrifices to their schedule and went really out of their way to try to apply for the position then reject them for extremely ambiguous reasons (we decided to go in a different direction; we feel there were other applicants more qualified). I think my main problem with the whole process was how drawn out, long and emotionally manipulative IMO it was, only to be rejected at the very end after successfully jumping through every stupid hoop they gave me and being given a totally unsatisfactory answer for why I was rejected. Honestly, they missed out because I would be great at the job, and I feel like they saw that so that's why they strung me along so long, but then rejected me because ...... no clue. *re-=enacts angry german gamer kid* I rejected other job offers because this one was more enticing, and because they had led me on and really made me feel like I was perfect for the role, and quite frankly I was. At least I can read from here and the reddit post that other people have had the same experience. Shopify, I would humbly request that although you didn't hire me, for the sanity of future applicants please reconsider your bizaare and unnecessarily drawn out and confusing / manipulative hiring process. You wasted almost an entire month of my time when the whole thing could've been done and over with in 2 days max, now I am even more in need of a job and just bitter about the whole experience : (.

its a very long interview process. First you apply online, then it's a mock email, then phone interview then the gauntlet. They're super selective in their hiring, but its worth it in the end

I applied to Shopify in December 2017. I applied online and had to build a trial store for the application, which was a little tedious but I was glad I took the time to do it. They've since changed their hiring process so it's no longer mandatory but optional (I highly recommend doing it, it will give you a feel for their platform). Within a couple weeks I had heard back from them and scheduled my "Life Story" call, which was strange at first but it was relaxed, it was more of a conversation than an interview. I was told at the beginning of the chat that I would know at the end of the 30 mins if I had made it on to the next step or not, luckily I did and I was on to the Gauntlet. I received an email shortly after to book the Gauntlet, I chose to book it for the following week - giving myself some time to study (I think this has also changed, they are trying to line it up to be right after your Life Story call). The Gauntlet was 1 chat, 1 email and 1 phone call. Remember to breathe, and really listen to the "Merchant". Don't make assumptions, and try to be as natural as possible. After I finished the Gauntlet (which was 45 mins) I was told I'd hear back regardless within a few days, which I really appreciated. Who likes waiting around to know if they got the position or not?! At the end of day 2 I received an email saying I'd got it, SO exciting! The overall process did involve putting some time into it, but it was a great experience and you have to appreciate that they're trying to make sure you're a good fit. But it also allows you to see if you would like it as well. My advice - if you get an invite to the Life Story, and this is a position you really want, start doing your research and digging deeper. Look through the help sections on their website, and the forums for commonly asked questions etc. Try to find those answers for yourself. They won't try to trick you, everything they ask is online somewhere. And if you haven't done so by this point, build a trial store. It will help you navigate and get a better handle on it.

First the application which generally building a shopify store, then the life story with a member of the recruiting team, then moved onto the Gauntlet which would "simulate" a day in the life of-or rather bits and pieces of all of the CS tasks.
