I started interviewing for Shaw October of 2019. This was for an intern position. The interview went great. I was overqualified. It lasted over an hour, and I thought I was set for the job.
However, a month went by and I heard nothing. I finally reached out to my recruiter, and she apologized for the delay and told me that they had a better opportunity for me.
They wanted me to interview for a full time position with the company instead of the intern role. I accepted and went on to that interview. It went just as well as the initial interview; over an hour, multiple people. I thought I definitely had this job considering I was referred internally.
But, two weeks went by and I heard nothing. I initiated a response to HR yet again.
She responded with “the next steps are to shadow the team in office”.
...ok?
Weird, but I was still willing to do this since I wanted the job. It is now FEBRUARY. I asked HR what the next steps would be after the job shadowing deal.
She said “oh, I don’t know. That’s a great question when you go shadow.”
Well, I went to shadow and I never got the chance to talk to ANY supervisor. I was escorted in and out in two hours.
After the “shadow”, it was dead silence. No follow-up whatsoever. I reached out to HR a week after the shadow- nothing.
Another week went by, I emailed again. Nothing. At this point, I just wanted them to give me ANY response!
Since, you know, that’s kinda their job? To follow up? Anyways, I figured it was a lost cause and took my talents elsewhere. (I mean, who would work for a company that can’t answer a simple email?)
I feel like Shaw got wind of it (I posted my other offer on FB), so finally.. this morning... 3 months and many hours wasted later.... I got my rejection email!
Lol. I sincerely hope this was a special case for Shaw. A company so big should NOT have communication issues like this. It was ridiculous. Thank God I don’t have children to care for or a house payment right now. I would’ve been screwed if I waited around for Shaw.
