I applied to a Communications Specialist role, which listed this as the responsibilities:
"Design and maintain a favorable public image for our clients
Plan, draft and develop communication training documents
Develop and implement strategic marketing and community events
Work with hiring and budgeting departments to optimize performance
Assist in the selection of marketing and promotional materials"
Which all seemed fairly normal for that sort of position. But when I got there, they started with a very rehearsed and very quickly spoken monologue about how everyone here started at the bottom--going door-to-door to get people to sign up for the company they're currently working with. They then went on to say that after working for minimum wage going door to door for six to twelve months I might be able to be promoted to manager and open my own office!
I politely declined the offer, since I was not interested in being an office manager who then has to hire more staff to go door to door... and this felt like a huge bait and switch if not outright scam like a pyramid scheme. If you apply or get an interview here, please go in expecting that this might be the case. If their offer seems fair to you and you decide to go for it, I wish you the best of luck.
