      Entretien

I applied online and then was invited to a Zoom interview. By far, the strangest interviewing process in my career. I was contacted by one of the company's family members who, while on our initial phone interview, was so excited to meet me because of my resume background. She kept saying that she had a really good feeling about me (even over the phone), which she normally doesn't feel when interviewing someone. The next day I got an email invitation to a Zoom interview, so we could talk further. Again, she told me that she couldn't wait to meet me because she had a good feeling. On the day of the Zoom interview, that's when her entire attitude changed. She suddenly started back peddling and acting very doubtful about hiring me because she said that my experience might not be right for the job, even though on my resume it clearly stated that I had previous experience in that exact role. Her son also joined the interview, who gave off the strangest vibe. He didn't have an ounce of warmth or human connection. He was so detached. They each asked me several questions, however, the conversation always came back to their apprehension about my experience not being right for the job, which they repeated to me at least three times during our interview. I also asked them about their salary scale, which immediately made them both very uncomfortable. And I asked that because I wanted to get a rough idea of what they would possibly offer me. The woman said, "Oh, it's too early to talk about salary." She also said that if I was hired, they would have to train me, which would take away from them doing other things, so the salary would probably in the lower range. Which I thought was odd because most companies upon hiring, will train you in some way, regardless of what your onboard salary would be. I got a very uncomfortable feeling during this interview and decided that even if they wanted to proceed further, I would decline. Both she and the son seemed socially awkward, which was a red flag to me. After the interview, I searched online to get some feedback from former employees who worked for the company and found them to be primarily negative; telling others who were thinking of applying for a job there to avoid it. It seemed to me that this family-owned business should only hired family members because while being interviewed, it felt as if I were being judged as an "outsider." My suggestion to anyone considering employment with this company would be to read all the reviews on Glassdoor from former employees, and also the reviews of the interviewing process. And then come to your own conclusions.
