      Entretien

The initial interview took place via phone and lasted slightly longer than 60 minutes with the VP of Sales. The second interview took place the following week and was a continuation with the VP of Sales in which our call lasted about 60 minutes. The third interview was a couple of days later with a senior member of their Advisory Board with a 30 year career as a respected executive sales leader. This third interview also lasted approximately one hour over the phone. The next step was a cross-country visit to their corporate HQ in Chicago to meet the VP of Sales in-person as well as meet and interview with the President/CFO of the company. I was told this was the final step of the interview process with a decision on my hiring to be made within a few days after the corporate visit. The morning of the visit I met with the VP of Sales over breakfast where we talked for more than an hour. Afterwards we head to their office where I had a morning interview scheduled for 90 minutes with the President/CFO. The interview began on time and it became immediately apparent the President/CFO had not taken the time to review my resume and personal information prior to our meeting. As I entered his office he turned to the VP of Sales and said “Did I get his resume”? I am a sales professional who was dedicating two days of my time to fly from Seattle to Chicago to meet with members of SA Ignite, including a 90-minute interview with one of their executive leaders. Realizing this executive leader had not invested even a few minutes prior to our meeting was an immediate concern for me. The company touts their culture is fantastic and people are treated with dignity and respect yet this was not my personal experience. A few days after my return from the corporate visit I was told everything went well and they now wanted to move forward to the last step of the hiring process which was checking my references. I immediately provided three references and within three days all my references were contacted by the VP of Sales and I was told all the references came back positive - - that was April 20th. I was told I should have a decision within a couple days. Since April 20th I was told on more than three occasions by the VP of Sales that he was meeting with the President/CFO to get the confirmation he needed to hire me. Each week I was told the meetings took place but the President/CFO hadn’t made a decision. Then on Monday, May 2nd I received a call from the VP of Sales. He conveyed that the previous week an event transpired that led him to “part ways” with the company. He was no longer at SA Ignite yet he still had the professional courtesy to call and inform me of what had just transpired. Not the same for anyone at SA Ignite… It has been one month since they spoke with my professional references and I have yet to receive any form of communication from anyone at SA Ignite. It seems to me the professional thing to do would have been to call me for two reasons: 1) To communicate that the VP of Sales that I’ve been working with for the past month is no longer with the company 2) To communicate with me on their hiring decision Wrapping this up, I was embarrassed to have to call my professional references to let them know that I never heard back from anyone at this company and that their time and effort providing details on my behalf was truly a waste of their time. My month-long experience with SA Ignite is one I won’t forget for all the wrong reasons…
