Recruiter to HM. HM to one day of interviews at corporate with CPO, HM, and other team members.
1. The recruiter was amazing.
2. HM's video chat was great.
3. Meeting the team was also a wonderful experience - except when I met the CPO.
- I have no idea why, perhaps racism, perhaps sexism. But the first thing he asked when he entered the interview room: "How did you get the jobs you've head in the past?"
*I've worked for three other major media companies.
When I told him I simply applied, properly showcased my work, and performed well during the interviews, he acted as if he didn't believe me. So I asked for clarity.
His next question: "Okay sure, so you interview well. But HOW did YOU get these jobs?"
So I explained my background and how I had the skills the other companies were looking for, how I approached the company needs and user pain points properly, articulated my knowledge of our industry, understood the role expectations, and etc. I also told him I was able to clearly articulate my product lifecycle experience, and I 'showed my work' to prove it within each interview.
But apparently that answer wasn't what he wanted to hear. So he stated "...but you've worked for some great companies. How did YOU even get an interview?"
And with that comment, I mentally withdrew myself from the process.
Your lack of diversity and unprofessional executive team are a shame to our industry.
