Spoke briefly with one of the managers over the phone and submitted my resume and cover letter via the website. Shortly after was contacted by another manager about a related role and a skype interview arranged. Both were very pleasant and professional, and I was surprised that I had been able to dial directly through to one of them initially rather than being gated through HR. The skype interview was also pleasant but constantly raised red flags. It may well have just been a lapse in interviewing technique but they fell back on canned responses when asked about the issues mentioned here and elsewhere, and were overly concerned that I asked for clarification on how much of my time would be spent fighting fires. (To be fair, I had just spent the entire morning fighting one so I could rush off to do the interview so I may have sounded a little more sceptical than intended.) I left with the distinct impression that things were more chaotic than they were willing to openly admit, but that they were at least selecting for someone both able and willing to handle that, so overall a positive experience. I had considered dropping a quick note in case it was just poor interview technique (which would be carrying over to other interviews with other candidates) but I couldn't phrase it in a way that couldn't be misinterpreted as sour grapes so let it sit in case it did more harm than good.
