      Entretien pour Data Scientist

      18 juil. 2019
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      San Francisco, CA
      Aucune offre
      Expérience négative

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez Roam (San Francisco, CA) en juil. 2019

      Entretien

I was contacted by the recruiter via online job platform. He asked me about my availabilities that week, and despite that I responded on the same day; he disappeared and only responded 2 weeks later with an apology that he was on vacation (why he asked for my availabilities for that week then, I do not know). When I had the call with the recruiter, he was helpful and friendly though. Then a technical phone interview is scheduled. Afterwards the process moved fast. Technical interview was 1 hour. The first 10-15 minutes consisted of questions on previous experience and what I was looking for in my next position. The interviewer was friendly and informative. The rest of the interview was on a Jupyter notebook, and I was expected to answer questions on a given dataset. First of all, despite that I mentioned to the recruiter before that I do not have SQL experience, and this should be communicated to the interviewer; it seemed like it had not been communicated. The data questions started with SQL questions. The interviewer helped moving on to the next questions when I mentioned I did not have SQL experience. For the rest of the questions, the interviewer made almost no comment at all when I was working on the problems-- despite I was told by the recruiter that it would be a collaborative interview. When I was stuck and wanted to move on to other questions, sometimes he insisted that I finish that question first. The questions were easy for an experienced candidate; but the interviewer's attitude and his general silence around my solutions were a big turn off and made me quite nervous. I had the impression that Roam Analytics does not set you up for success for the interview. Disappointing.

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback with us. Our team was saddened to learn that you'd characterize your interview with Roam as a negative experience. We endeavor to continually improve our interview process and therefore put a lot of stock in candidate feedback. Throughout the last 5+ years Roam has interviewed thousands of candidates for a wide variety of roles and this is our first time receiving a negative review. One downside of recruitment platforms is the potential for timing mishaps to arise. Companies like Roam have a limited amount of time to reach out to prospective employees, which is why you were contacted by one of our recruiters shortly before they left for a scheduled vacation. We absolutely should've set expectations in advance around his availability; we're remiss for failing to do so and will never make that mistake again. Once our recruiter was back online, he did apologize for the delay and, as you noted, the interview process proceeded swiftly thereafter. Part of Roam's recruiting ethos is to be super transparent regarding the content and suggested preparation for all of our interviews. We're sorry that you didn't find these descriptions sufficient and will make sure they're as robust as they can be. More specifically, the interviewer was made aware of the fact that you did not have prior experience with SQL. They were prepared to work through these problems with you; however, they sensed a strong reluctance to attempt these questions and for that reason they agreed to skip these initial exercises at your request. Roam is proud of its interview process, but there's always room for improvement, so thank you once again for the constructive criticism. Although we arrived at the conclusion that you're not well suited for this particular position, we wish you the best of luck in your career and current job search.
