      Entretien

I was contacted by a Refinery29.com HR recruiter through LinkedIn asking me if I'd be interested in a new position. Being a fan of Refinery29.com, I curiously submitted a requested resume and cover letter. I was invited to interview with a newly hired business developer a few days later. Once I arrived at the offices in downtown New York, I waited for the business developer who was about 25 minutes late for the interview. The interviewer led us to a conference table that was exposed to about fifty employees working side-by-side on computers. The office had large windows with a nice view but the employees seemed rather cramped and the building was very industrial. It was rather unnerving that the interviewer decided not to hold the interview in secluded or quiet area. The interviewer was very unprepared for the interview, who hadn’t much looked at my resume and didn't seem to know much about the position. For every question I asked, he told me that the Managing Editor at the next interview would be able to answer my questions. The interviewer was nice enough for the most part, except he kept interrupting the interview to casually say hello to colleagues walking by. I found this to be very distracting but tried to not to let it unhinge my focus for the interview. At the end, the interviewer said he’d have someone follow up with me about a second interview. After three weeks of trying to contact the original recruiter for a follow up, my emails were completely ignored. I found this to be very unprofessional, as I had taken the afternoon off at my current job to interview. It was like a bad Match.com date with red flags all over the place but still enjoy reading the website now and then, I guess. It seemed a lot less glamorous from the inside.
