I applied directly through their careers portal. I received an email to schedule a phone interview with one of the managers of the position about three months after applying. Questions for the first interview were standard and seemed to gauge how much I knew about the company and why I wanted to work there. Second interview was at the office and with everyone on the team I would be working with. I was there from 9 AM to 1 PM. After several 30 minute one-on-one interviews, I went to lunch with most of the team on campus. A few days later I was asked for an unofficial transcript. A few weeks later I received a personal email from one of the managers who interviews me that I did not get an offer. Overall everyone was extremely friendly and seemed to like their work.

Interview process was initially seemed pretty straight forward and traditional - nothing out of the ordinary when comparing to other interviews I've had. But - I had a 5 interview process (phone, phone, phone, in-person for half-day on campus, phone). The first interview was pretty academic in my opinion so it definitely reflected the academic culture at RTI so that was insightful.
Overall, I was very optimistic and create personal connections with all of the people who interviewed me but I was still denied after the 5 interviews. Honestly, it was a complete waste of my time to spend over 10+ hours for a company just to deny me the job. It is actually ironic that a group of economist gave me the most inefficient interview process.
I think I was denied because I was required to send them my college transcript before the in-person interview. I have a 2.9 GPA. Seems like RTI has requirements from their clients that those working for them should have a particular GPA or educational requirement (for example, team can't be have only bachelor degrees, need some masters and doctoral degrees). This clear barrier to entry and should have been expressed in the job posting to avoid wasting a candidate's time (or even anywhere in the 5-step process would have been nice).
RTI is pretty big here. However, I will not be applying to future employment here and suggest those who only have 4 year degrees to stay away (especially those who have GPAs under 3.0). Even after speaking to other people in my in-person who only had 4 -year degrees, seems like you're viewed as bottom of the barrel unless you have a master's or doctor's. So if you're looking for a place to grow with only a 4-year degree definitely will not happen here. But if you are looking for an academic type of environment and looking to go back to school this might be a good in-between place to establish a network.

About a month after my application I was contacted to conduct a phone screen interview that took about 30 minutes. A week later I was contacted to set up a video interview with 5 different groups within the company that lasted 2.5 hours.
