The interview took the whole day. I met with several business groups and IT groups. From the start I can tell that the company has been growing faster than leaders can control since most of the directors were able to provide answers to my questions (i.e. promoted without being qualified) or they seemed angry that the systems were a mess as if I was already at fault. My biggest concern was the overall hierarchy of the company. REI is very very vertical with too many leaders with few contributors. I was even told that more groups are being created starting at the Sr. VP level which no doubt will add more complexity. I would be curious how they match to the gartner reports for company size. I still think its a good company but just was not for me.
