I received a phone screen invite about 1 week after applying on Indeed. I then have the interview a day before Thanksgiving. They start off by telling me that the position has been put on pause because the person holding the position can stay longer due to low demand during the holidays. (Why is this not communicated through email instead of a scheduled call? Had I known the position was put on pause I would not have interviewed. Additionally, it just speaks poorly of the company if they cannot prepare and plan accordingly.) The interview is probably less than five minutes. They let me know that they have already reached out to other candidates before me. I accept that this application is going nowhere and move on. About 1 week later, I get an email message telling the same thing that the position was put on pause and thanks me for my interest. Why? Do they have no work that they keep bothering candidates? As a candidate, I don't need to be called or messaged unless I am actually in the running for the position.
