Screen with a recruiter and then a first-round with the hiring manager. The recruiter told me early on that the position actually was 50/50 coding and management, even though that didn't align with the JD. I said that was concerning, and he told me that he couldn't correct it because that would mean starting over from scratch with his leads... which seems kinda stupid and overly bureaucratic. It's also weird that they would change up the requirements from the JD. He also said he had trouble getting anyone past the HM because candidates weren't "technical enough," and asked me a few softball questions anyone at this level should be able to answer.
The interview with the HM was petty perfunctory and he announced at the outset he would not use the whole time allotted. He asked a few very high-level questions about things like microservices architecture and performance management, which left me with the impression he didn't really get a sense of my actual technical skill. I was rejected a few business days later with no feedback. After a week, the recruiter finally got feedback and I was rejected for a lack of e-commerce experience.... even though the HM hardly touched on that. Really weird and it sounds like recruiting and the HMs are not at all on the same page.
The recruiter was more communicative than most but I get the feeling he is in a tough spot and the organization isn't as aligned as it should be.
I had an aptitude test followed by 3 rounds of interviews. Interviewers were from different hierarchy in the organisation. The questions from the 3 interviews covered all aspects of project and product management. Also a few questions, to check one's presence of mind.
At the end I was given ample time to ask questions or know more about the organisation
Overall, it was a great experience and the interviewers put me at ease in all the rounds
