Interview was conducted via a platform called Karat, where you talk to a Engineer over video chat and write code as per problem given live while on video. Unique way to conduct interview, kind of liked it despite being a pressure filled interview due to live interview. Stress was on getting the complete working solution, no half solutions allowed.(which I think is flawed but whatever).
Luckily I was able to code perfectly acceptable and optimized code in 45 mins as expected. Interviewer said to contact Pinterest if I do not hear an email for next stage Interview of process, so I knew I nailed it.
Instead I got an email from Recruiter "We have many applications for this position and thus we cannot follow with the interview further".
This is not only unprofessional for someone's time despite getting everything righ, I can only wish you good luck. Just please do not interview folks when you have no plans to give them a fair chance. Just to add, I do have 11+ years of relevant programming experience, so only negatives I can confidently point to are "degree from non-top schools" and "not experience with relevant Tools". For both I think, experience makes up for it and Tools can be learned as long as problem solving approach is correct.
Pinterest, fix human part of your interview process, technically it is perhaps fine, but your Human interaction is absolutely degrading to Engineering Hiring process.
Thanks,

Interviewer barely spoke english. I solved the problem and had a bug. I was able to fix the bug quickly by myself. Then the next day the interviewer passed on my candidacy because my “initial solution had a bug” which I fixed quickly. The most annoying part of the interview was the lack of english-speaking abilities. Dont waste your time. They’ll dock you for any frivolous thing, especially if you’re not from “their” community. Please stop having people who dont speak english interview candidates!
