The recruiter had a thorough phone screen with me regarding my past work experience. We clicked so well that she scheduled a technical video call with the hiring manager while I was still on the phone with her. The hiring manager asked me to write basic SQL queries and to write an email to a fake customer. The next day I was asked for my availability to come onsite. At the onsite, the hiring manager asked me to white-board a sketch of how I might build various dashboards. I also had to write basic JavaScript code. I know I nailed these technical exercises. One of the interviewers even high-fived me! Then, I unexpectedly had a 1-1 with the COO and the Head of Sales Engineering, which made me feel positive and hopeful. These were mostly cultural-fit and personality questions. After having me wait a week, they decided to reject me in favor of *future* candidates who *may* be a better fit.
It is still a mystery to me on what they were looking for. The hiring manager has a quirky personality and it was difficult to get a read on her. Overall, the interviews mainly focused on my coding skills and not much on my prior work experience. I must mention that the recruiter Jen is solid! She prepared me before every interview and thoroughly walked me through on what to expect. She is also prompt and follows-up with pending things.
