      Entretien pour Sales Director

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via la recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Paylocity (Schaumburg, IL) en juil. 2018

      Entretien

The initial interview was a phone interview with an executive recruiter with Paylocity. The recruiter was exceptionally professional and well versed in the requirements of the position. Next I had a phone interview with the hiring manager, again very professional and we had a strong dialog about the requirements of the position. Finally, there were several face to face interviews with Sr leadership and the team. At every step, the feedback was prompt, professional and very welcoming. Prior to my first face to face, the recruiter took me on a tour of the building which really helped to provide a strong sense of the culture and the thought that went into designing the working environment. Without question, this was one of the best interviewing experiences I have ever had, which has reinforced a very strong positive impression of the company on me.

I was recently contacted by a recruiter at Paylocity regarding a potential opportunity and agreed to an initial interview. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing and felt unprofessional from the start. During the call, the recruiter appeared disengaged and did not take the time to review or discuss my background. Rather than asking about my experience, I was simply asked what I currently do. I shared that I currently lead a team of sales executives and outlined my track record, including revenue performance and targets achieved. Despite having over 10 years of payroll sales experience with a major competitor, there was no meaningful follow up or discussion. The conversation quickly shifted to my education, where I was told that candidates typically require a bachelor’s degree. While I understand companies have specific requirements, this should have been reviewed prior to scheduling the interview. The call lasted approximately 8 minutes, even though 30 minutes had been scheduled. The recruiter also mentioned that shorter calls are typical, which was surprising. Overall, the interaction felt dismissive and poorly managed. Given my extensive experience and long term track record in the industry, I expected a more thoughtful and respectful recruiting process. This experience did not reflect that. Advice to Management: Ensure recruiters review candidate qualifications in advance and provide a more professional and engaging interview experience.

The company only wants outside hires, but in the event they can't source one, they will promote from within. The process to get promoted internally has become laughable, but the pay is the main inhibitor. Reps are paid well, leaders are not, and the drop off is considerable.

Process is normal but they don't seem to understand the value of leadership and stay focused on industry experience. Any smart person can learn what they do. How can you bring new fresh ideas if everyone you hire is from the industry?
