I received an invite for an interview shortly after applying. I was very excited, as it has always been a personal goal to work for Patagonia. I spent the entire weekend preparing and even re-read Let My People Go Surfing for inspiration. When I logged on for the interview, the recruiter seemed slightly frazzled and asked if he could go off camera for a moment to pull up my application. When he returned, he informed me that the interview invitation was sent 'by mistake' and that they intended to decline my application. He was apologetic and told me that we could do the interview anyway, "if I wanted to", and that "you never know what might happen". I was taken aback by this, but I did my best to stay composed and feel that I provided as strong of an interview as I possibly could have. Afterwards, I was told that I was "very much still in the running" and that I would hear back from them within the week regarding next steps. It has been well over a month, and I have not received any further communication. While I understand that juggling interviews and applications for such a large company would be a very demanding and taxing job, I find myself incredibly let down and disappointed by how this situation was handled. I feel that this was a disrespectful and tactless handling of the situation. I understand that this was likely a one-time occurrence, but I wanted to express my frustration with the lack of professionalism and tact I experienced during this interview process.
