      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez POP communications (Bristol, Angleterre) en août 2021

      Entretien

Instructed to record a 1.5 minute video about myself, to which then I was given a task before even speaking to somebody from the company. The task was above the level you would expect from a junior developer and was given a short deadline for it. After that stage, I was invited to their office to meet the team, where they spoke down about the project I completed. Extremely unprofessional manner during the interview and was told limited training would be provided as "you're an adult so should be able to solve things yourself". (Job listing describes Full training and mentor, which is polar opposite to how they described it in the interview)

I'm sorry this candidate felt this way. We have always had good feedback on our recruitment process and we don't drag candidates through stage after stage like many agencies. Our process is simple -We post ad -We filter responses down to a potential of 10 candidates -We ask them to do a 1.5 minute video and we ask them to respond to certain questions - saves them time having to come in for an interview -We then filter again to 2-5 candidates and ask them to do a small task - takes on average 4-8 hours depending on their abilities (it is the same task we have used time and again, feedback from successful candidates has always been very positive on the task) -We then interview in the office the best 2-3 candidates -We choose one Very quick and simple. Interesting they said the task was too difficult for a junior and not enough time, all the juniors we have hired have excelled at the task, that's why we employed them. If it was too simple or they had lots of time it wouldn't be a very good gauge of their abilities. As a guide for candidates that have to do tasks for a job interview, do exactly what the employer asks you to do, read the brief a few times so you know exactly what you need to deliver. With our task we provide design guidelines and dev guidelines. If you don't follow one or the other then the task will not meet the employers' requirements. Unfortunately, this candidate ignored the design for the app they were developing so it looked nothing like what we asked it to look like. As a creative agency clearly the visual elements is very important, it also illustrates whether a candidate can follow instructions. The candidate is misrepresenting what was said in the interview. Full training and mentorship is a given, how else would a junior be able to progress, especially as we work in a very complex and unique area of dev. However, they are also expected to show some initiative and drive and want to learn rather than being spoon fed, again successful candidates are appreciative of this approach. The comment about being an adult we say to every candidate, no matter the role, we don't micro manage people, we don't watch when they clock-in or out, we treat people like adults they are in charge of their own time and destiny. We want employees that enjoy and want responsibility and we'll give them all the support they need. Damjan Haylor Managing Director
