I went through 4 rounds ending with the hiring manager. Really enjoyed the time with the team members I spoke with. I made it the 4th and final round which was with the hiring manager. That round was going well too until the last question I was asked which was my salary requirements. I replied with my current salary and bonus and quickly she replied I’m not in the range for the role. A role I just spent 4+hours/4 rounds interviewing for.
I was very honest and transparent from day 1 with the interview coordinator and told her what my current salary and bonus is and what would be required to make a move.
So I spent 4 hours/4 rounds interviewing for a role where my salary requirements never were in their range for this role. I was told “it really just depends on exactly what the hiring manager is looking for. ” I was more than qualified for the role I was interviewing for (as stated by other members I interviewed with) so this final statement from the internal recruiter was confusing.
My suggestion is simply don’t do this to people. Know what your range is for the role and don’t accept applicants that are outside the range(s) you’re willing to pay for unless they agree to take the pay cut. As a double digit year U.S. Veteran it’s disheartening knowing this practice happens here. Good luck if you decide to interview here, I surely hope you’re experience is than this.
