      Entretien

I applied for this position on June 27. I scheduled my phone screen with HR for July 5. The email from HR stated that it would be a phone interview. I get into the interview and she requests that I turn on my camera - even though she had explicitly wrote it would be a phone screen. We get through the interview, which was very thorough, but goes along smoothly. One of the questions she asks is why I haven't taken the several offers I've had in the last few months. I tell her that I didn't feel a connection with some of the teams and in one case the HR rep made some very off color remarks to me. Fast forward to the end of the interview and as we're doing our goodbyes, out of the blue she accuses me of being unprofessional. I was totally taken by surprise and just say "what?" She goes on a 5 minute rant that if I move forward with this company I will be talking to "very important high ranking people" and I need to look my best for them. She says that I need to be aware of my area and make sure I'm doing everything I can to impress them because they WILL be judging my appearance and my rooms appearance. I was absolutely floored. This is a very clear case of workplace sexism and honestly this person has no business being in HR. I have been a working professional for almost a decade and have been working remotely for 3 years. I know how to present myself in a professional way and I was. I think it really speaks to the company if this is the kind of people they're hiring. Also they clearly aren't that interested in your skills if they're so busy judging how you look. I ended the call as quickly as I could after that. I did have a second interview because I figured I would never have to work with this woman as she's HR and I'm product. The second interview went seemingly well. The interviewer was the design manager. She gave me very positive feedback after all my questions - telling me I was confident and knowledgeable. There were a few things that I didn't have experience with but I told her I was eager to learn. We talked at length about how mid level designers can't know everything and that willingness to learn and grow were much more important. She seems like she really understood that many things can be taught and soft skills are more important. A few days later I receive a voicemail from the HR rep telling me that they will not be moving forward with me as I do not know how to make journey maps and workflow diagrams. She says that these are requirements of the position and non-negotiable. She says I don't have enough experience (I have a year more than they were looking for and a master degree) and they would consider me for a mid level role once I have 2 more years under my belt (5 years in total, although they were asking for 2). I'm shocked again as my conversation with the manager led me to believe that she understood that people can learn a few simple things like creating design artifacts. I dig deeper and go to look for the job listing and poof! it's gone. They clearly already hired someone for the position, but didn't want to be honest with me. Luckily I had saved the text from the listing and imagine this - it does not state anywhere that you need to be able to create journey maps and workflow diagrams, it was just another lie. I would encourage people to steer clear of this company. They were rude, unprofessional, and lied to me left and right.
