COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Recruiters are arrogant, sexist, and demeaning. I wouldn’t be surprised if this culture runs rampant through the firm. I applied for an Associate position on Lument’s real estate M&A team in NYC. A recruiter initially contacted me regarding my application, but mentioned he also wanted to speak to me about a Analyst position on their underwriting team. He mentioned that he had sent my resume to the other team and they were excited to speak to me. I let him know that I appreciated the interest from the other team, but I was not interested in the other position. He then questioned me on why I was not interested in the other position, and after I asked him a few additional questions, he said we should speak over Zoom. I asked him if we would be discussing both positions, and he said yes. The head of recruiting at Lument joined the call and gave me some background on the underwriting position – he started off by saying that the underwriting position was half client-facing and supports the originators. I told him that I am currently an Associate on an origination team, and that my goal for my next job is to move over to acquisitions, and do more advisory related work. He then insisted that my current job was similar to the underwriting position. I disagreed, origination brings in deals, and underwriting works on those deals. Regardless, I told him I’m not trying to move to a new company to do the same job. He then laughed in my face and said “so you want to get paid more for doing a job you have no experience in”. I told him I didn’t think my goals were unique from anyone else, and that most people try to get a better job as they progress through their career. I would follow the advise of some of the former employees/reviewers and “STAY AWAY”.
