The email asked for my expected minimum hourly wage and it said they wouldn’t proceed unless I provided a specific dollar amount, like I couldn’t say ‘negotiable’. I’ve never been asked that before. Usually companies confirm that the posted salary range is acceptable. Asking me to confirm a specific dollar amount before I even interview made me feel like the company is trying to get me to lowball myself. I provided the response as requested but I don’t know if I’ll hear back. It’s too bad because I was genuinely interested in the position and the organization, but that question was a red flag for me.
