Entretien
The recruitment process began with an initial call from HR, which consisted mainly of pre prepared screening questions. While the call covered standard topics, it felt quite scripted and there was limited discussion about the role itself.
After several weeks and multiple follow-ups, I was invited to a video interview with the IT Director, Rob. This was a much more positive experience. The discussion focused on my current technical experience, customer service skills, troubleshooting approach, and my interest in developing into an IT support career. Rob was professional, engaging, and provided a clear overview of the role and company.
Following this, I was invited to attend a trial day at the office. I arrived on time but waited approximately 25 minutes before being collected from reception. The IT office consisted of a small team working within a single-room environment. I was seated at a workstation and asked to complete a series of tasks through the company's internal system, with time logging required for each task.
The trial day was intended to reflect a typical day in the role, and it did provide useful insight into the team's working environment and processes. However, I felt the expectations, assessment criteria, and available resources could have been explained more clearly at the beginning. For example, it was not initially communicated that online research could be used for certain tasks. The day involved largely independent work with limited interaction or feedback throughout the assessment.
Overall, the process gave me a realistic view of the role and workplace. The interview stage with the IT Director was particularly positive, although the trial day experience felt less structured and could have benefited from clearer guidance and a more welcoming candidate experience.
