I was initially emailed by the hiring manager asking me to complete a design task where I would redesign a label for one of their products. This email came through late on Friday afternoon, with the deadline set for 9:00am on Monday morning, requiring for the work to be completed over the weekend. It should be noted, that completion of this task would not necessarily lead to an interview.
The task was completed within the deadline, and submitted via email to the hiring manager on the Saturday.
Over a week passes and there is no form of confirmation from the hiring manager to acknowledge that they had received the email and design work. So after a week passes, I sent a follow-up email asking for confirmation that they had indeed received it. Within about 15 minutes, they replied stating that 'they appreciate me taking the time to complete the task, but I was not successful in getting an interview'.
I emailed back asking if they could provide feedback on the design work I had completed for them, but they did provide any kind of feedback nor reply further.
This interview was rated as a negative experience because:
- Due to the given deadline, the task had to be completed outside normal business hours.
- They did not send any kind of acknowledgement after the completed design work was sent to them.
- They did not provide any kind of feedback on the design work that was done for them, even when asked to provide.
