J'ai passé un entretien chez Munich Re (Princeton, NJ)

      Entretien

I interviewed for the Senior Financial Planning Analyst position at Munich Reinsurance America. The process moved quickly through interviews, and I remained highly interested. After a verbal discussion, they provided a benefits outline but omitted the base salary entirely and listed the sign-on bonus as “to be determined.” When I politely requested a complete formal written offer letter (including base salary, exact title, sign-on details with timing/clawback, and full bonus structure/metrics), they set an extremely tight deadline: decision required by noon Monday. I confirmed my strong interest, proposed a modest sign-on with standard prorated clawback, and asked for confirmation of the base and other terms. They responded that the 90-day clawback was non-negotiable but would check on the amount. Shortly after, they withdrew the offer (initially with the wrong job title in the email). Key takeaways for others: • Watch for processes that demand fast decisions without providing full written compensation details. • Reasonable, professional negotiation on sign-on or clarification of terms should not result in an immediate withdrawal. • Lack of transparency on core offer elements early on is a significant red flag. The benefits package looked competitive on paper (strong 401k match, PTO, etc.), but the hiring process raised concerns about how future requests or changes would be handled. Proceed with caution and insist on full written offers before committing to tight deadlines.
