I applied online, then was contacted by the recruiter to set up an initial phone interview. The first phone interview was more of getting to know me and what I am looking for. Then i was contacted about speaking with the manager for a more detailed interview. During the second phone interview, the woman barely started speaking to me before she asked "What my biggest professional failure was". Seemed like a very negative way to start a conversation. I was then contacted about doing a scheduling exercise. It wasn't a very complex exercise, but it seemed they were looking for specific ways doing things. Following the exercise I was told they would not be moving forward. The reason being that I chose to do the scheduling how I have been doing for several years in the recruiting world. Overall, the reason I was turned down seemed to be a very simple teaching moment, not something that would prevent me from being successful in the role.

I honestly was surprised when I was contacted for an interview because it had been over a week since I applied for the position. When I was contacted by the recruiter, it sounded like he was using a speaker phone in a big room, so it was really hard to hear what he said. When I asked him to clarify a few questions because I honestly couldn't hear what he said, he sounded frustrated with me. At one point, I apparently didn't fully answer his question and he started asking me why I thought I could do this job since I haven't had this position before. His accusatory tone was shocking to me, and I was taken aback, especially since I had read how much MuleSoft cares about the interviewing process and finding the right people. I explained how I had relevant work experience, but the interviewer gave only cursory responses and showed no interest in talking to me further (which I found incredibly hypocritical when he later on acknowledged that he was hired as a recruiter at MuleSoft with no direct experience, let along experience in a recruiting position). I was very upset with my experience in the interviewing process with MuleSoft; I had expected a much higher level of professionalism and felt that I was dismissed from the very start.

Sounds like we had some connection issues! I'm sorry that came across as a lack of professionalism. I personally am committed to treating every candidate with the same amount of respect and professionalism, no matter the outcome, and I apologize if this did not come through in our conversation. Best of luck with your search!

Overall, it was a very enjoyable process. The first interview, by phone, was more of a conversation. It was really just to get to know you and find out more about your interests in the job. The recruiter was friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable about the position and the company. In twenty or so minutes, I was informed that MuleSoft wanted to move forward. The second interview was more related to the job, with a few basic "tell me a time..." questions. This was also a good experience. In both interviews, I felt at ease and could be myself. After that, I was invited a few days later to perform an exercise mirroring the types of tasks I would be doing in the actual position. There is no way to prepare for it, so don't stress out about it. It was a challenging yet fun task. After a few more days, I was informed I wouldn't be advancing to what I assume would be the on-site interview. I attribute their decision not to move forward to how I performed on the exercise. The decision, however, was probably for the best, as I don't believe I exactly met their criteria. Although somewhat disappointing, I respect the decision and am grateful to have had the opportunity to interview with some professional and really cool people from a great company.

Applied online then recruiter reached out to schedule a phone screen. The overall experience was by far the worst I have ever experienced. The recruiter, he was a male recruiter and fairly young, was not engaged or interested in speaking to me. The vibes I was getting were not good, so I withdrew my application after that conversation. A piece of advice for this gentleman, act like you care next time the candidates are your clients too.
