I had a screener with the recruiter who was SO enthusiastic. Made it seem like the company was a rocket ship and everyone there loved being there. I asked him comp range and he gave me a big number (not a range) and mentioned there was no bonus. I then interviewed with three other people. I was told they wanted to wait a little bit to interview other people before getting back to me in 3 weeks. But 3 days later they gave me an offer at $40k less than what the recruiter quoted me at initially. When I held firm and reminded him of the earlier number, his demeanor changed instantly to cold, making all kinds of excuses like that it was geo-based or our of the range for the level of the role (all things that were not changed since I applied).
TL;DR: this company doesn't have their stuff together and it showed in the process. Turns out the person who would be my boss quit right after I declined this job.
