      Entretien

Some really slip-shod recruiters. I usually get things from this company that are barely compatible with my skillset, but this time I was approached by a nice recruiter. She had a botched description for a design position (such as a specific spec-work ask described as a hypothetical situation, obscure words for the sake of being obscure, etc) in defense. The job looked interesting, but she demanded that I contact her within the hour (which I did), so that was strike one. Finally, after wasting about 2 hours with her by email, including putting together a spec-work chart depicting a communication and event log, strikes two and three came. After I did the work for her, she told me that the position required previous defense experience (the only listed requirements were to be able to open Photoshop and not blow your deadlines all the time), and the chart sample was "too simplistic" because the manager was looking for a specific style, specific sample style, etc. At no point had she mentioned any of these specific needs - only that the asset was meant for an existing Powerpoint presentation. She also then shared that the manager wanted someone who understood "defense concepts", vaguery which was not outlined in the description, and specified that other candidates had shared "pictorials" (to show a log of events?). I think she used the wrong word... It was at this point I realized she probably doesn't work with designers often: you can't give a designer a vague idea and then come out of left-field after work has been done that you need x, y, and z to be incorporated (you can, but it makes you look not-very-professional). And it's especially a bad idea to put down a designer because you gave them a vague idea and they didn't deliver what other designers who actually have the specific experience you needed in the first place (and knew they didn't have), particularly on a spec work piece. I asked at that point why she had approached me if my background was so obviously incompatible with her requirements, especially based on things that she hadn't disclosed to me, and have not yet received an answer. Really dragged down my already disappointed view of this company.
