The interviewing process started with the automatic notification of reception of the resume and some cover letter. After few days, you should receive a template with a practical test (one/two exercises). The content of the test may deal with data structures, optimisation and so on. You are required to provide estimates of the running time, memory consumption and time spent on the test. The next stage, in this case, were the Skype calls with engineers: one for the description and questions on the product, motivation and background; the other on theoretical questions not directly related to the position. Other stages are expected after this point (on-site interview, maybe some other tests or interviews); but didn't make it through.
Overall the process is okay. The smoothness of the interviews, information provided and adequateness of the questions depend much on who carries on with the interview. The timing, the number of questions and of interview stages is not standard and may differ based on the position you apply to or on your personal network. Sometimes there's the feeling of lack of coordination and consistency across the stages themselves; as testing validation steps and distributing information on specific positions do not seem to be taken into account for later stages.
