J'ai passé un entretien chez Microsoft en févr. 2021

      Entretien

After passing the CV screening and the online programming assessment test, I was interviewed by 4 researchers from Microsoft Research Redmond. The last interview was conducted by the leader of the research team. All interviewers were very polite and easy going. The questions were mostly "design questions" but with a focus in NLP research problems. I think I did very poorly in all these questions. I'm not sure why but I couldn't ask the right questions to clarify the under specified problem. I tried to "solve" the problem using only the very broad information piece given at the beginning. In the end, I didn't got an offer. That's ok. It happens. But the most annoying thing is that they just got silent. After FOUR INTERVIEWS! I think I passed through the whole process! And they just didn't bother to tell me I wasn't getting an offer. I insisted a lot with the recruiter before coming to a friend that works at MS so that he could contact the team leader directly. Almost immediately the recruiter called me to tell the bad news. I think it was more than a month since my last interview and their return. So that was very disappointing. Specially because I have hear so many good things about MS process.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

All researcher basically presented a problem (very broad and under specified) and asked how I would approach them. They varied from entity linking prediction up to a specific problem regarding user needs in a retrieval system. Only one of them presented me with a programming question. It was a pretty basic one. The question was, given a set of numbers, how to check if there was three numbers x,y,z in the set such that x+y=z.
