      Entretien

I submitted an application through the website and was contacted by a recruited a few weeks later for a phone screening. I did a screening and was passed to the hiring manager for another phone interview. The phone interview with the hiring manager was about 30 minutes. We talked a lot about process, how I work with other teams and what my overall design approach is like. I received another offer to come onsite for a presentation to a total of 6 people, then 1-1s with everyone after. I was onsite for a total of 6 hours. The presentation was ok. I was asked a lot of questions around process, research and what my part in that was. Some of the questions were really challenging, and it seemed like if you didn't give them the answer they wanted, there was no flexibility around that. Couple of people were also passing notes throughout my presentation which was a bit distracting to me. I had better experiences in my 1-1s except for one interaction. This person asked me about my company's process in terms of conducting user interviews, and when I mentioned what my company previously did, this person literally scoffed and laughed at my answer in kind of disgust. I didn't even get to mention that we realised this wasn't the best approach, because at this point this person came off really egotistical. I also went through white-boarding exercises which aren't the best way to gauge a candidates thought process I feel. You're put on the spot with a product you're fairly unfamiliar with, but I understand the reasoning as to why they do it. The person who I did the white-boarding with was patient enough and definitely didn't have the ego like I felt others did. Overall, it was a tough and long interview. But I also felt like a lot of what I was saying wasn't being heard. It seemed like if you didn't want to work they did, then it's too bad for you. Or, if you didn't have the experience or background they did, then no chance for you either.
