I applied for the position and landed an interview with Human Resources. The interview went great, the HR manager was very nice and professional. She educated me on the Foundation and the job itself. I was then called back for a second interview with the CFO (treasurer) who was also very nice. We discussed my qualifications and the reasons why I wanted the position. The following day my boss came to my office to let me know that she’d be having lunch with the CFO (treasurer) of the Alfred Sloan Foundation. I thought it was very unusual considering they had never met before. You see something highly unethical and unprofessional happened here; Without my permission The CFO (treasurer) went directly to my boss to get a reference on me and asked her to a private lunch to discuss me. A few days after their lunch I was contacted by HR and informed that I wouldn’t be making it to the next round of interviews. To give some more context I had a very soured relationship with my boss - so by taking the lunch meeting with this very unethical unprofessional CFO (treasurer) my chances for landing the job was nill. My boss, at that time, was highly unprofessional herself so this was a perfect storm for me to lose my chance.
