      Entretien pour Management Trainee

      15 mars 2010
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      Chicago, IL
      Aucune offre
      Expérience négative
      Entretien facile

      Candidature

Le processus a pris 1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez McMaster-Carr (Chicago, IL) en mars 2010

      Entretien

I applied for the Management Development Program in Chicago or L.A. Shortly after I emailed McMC my application I got an appointment for a telephone interview. One of their Corporate Recruiter called (who participated in the program herself) and we chatted a little bit. I told her about my current work and some experience in my past and she quickly explained what McMC does. Afterwards I was able to ask questions regarding the position and the company. Then she had some specific questions in regard to my resume (what did you do, how did you like it, what did you achieve...). The whole conversation went for like 40 minutes. My questions regarding their company and program haven't been answered. The most common answer was: "Sorry, since it's a privately held company I can't answer this question." Which is okay when I ask for revenues etc. But shouldn't I want to know how many people work there etc. in order to get a feeling if it's the right place for me? The structure of the program is okay but not structured at all. Also, you don't have any kind of specific trainings etc. The freedom though was what interested me. During the telephone interview she told me four times that my resume is outstanding and my experience would be perfect for McMC. One of her teammebers would be contacting me at the end of the following week. (my interview was on a Thursday). The following Monday I received a rejection letter. Dated the same day the telephone interview occured. That certainly threw me off, especially after her positive feedback. How about some honesty or at least pretending you made the decision during the following week? This just shows me that McMC as a working place might not be to much fun if that's the way they treat each other. Also, my follow-up email is still unanswered (although we had a nice email contact and very friendly interview).

Made it past phone call screening and had a one-on-one chat with a current manager before final round of interviews. Each round was 45 minutes to an hour long and questions were difficult. Have lots of examples ready. Have different answers ready for similar questions.

The interview process was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. I really appreciated that the discussions were fully behavioral, allowing me to naturally draw on my past experiences. Furthermore, the company truly goes out of its way to treat you like a VIP throughout the entire visit, covering a remarkably nice hotel stay and providing a generous stipend to ensure you are completely comfortable.

One behavioral interview with a recruiter and then a day-long onsite interview at the Elmhurst IL location. Superday has two behavioral interviews, walkarounds and more but feels like you're being observed everyday.
