One of the strangest interviews I have ever had. I was connected through a previous colleague who works there and prepped me for the interview and told me things I should highlight etc. The interview was just with HR but she barely asked me any questions about myself. The little standard questions she did ask I answered and she said she would email me shortly to set up a call with the hiring manager. She went over all details of the job after telling me this, the location of the office, day the interview would be etc. and then I never heard from her. I followed up a few times but nothing.
Disappointing. It was a company I so very much wanted to work for as well.
Overall a pleasant (if unnecessarily extensive) interview process, with the internal recruiter being friendly and communicative throughout -- that is, until the last of the five (!) stages, which at this point included 4 cumulative hours of interviewing with various team members (not to mention a very extensive task which took two days to complete). I followed up two weeks after my final stage interview and received a generic email back from the recruiter about how the team is working through next steps. It's now been a month and in this time I've already received and accepted an offer from another company. The time and energy I put into this process feels like a waste in retrospect, and in general has made me think less of Madewell as a brand. I recommend that they put more effort into keeping their final stage candidates informed if they don't want to lose talent, let alone leave them feeling undervalued, underappreciated and undermined. Don't bother applying unless you're willing to put in the legwork only to be let down by their lack of organization, or lack of care for the applicants who are clearly more invested in the process than they are.
