There was an initial call with an HR rep that consisted of “HR 101” questions and then a follow up with the Director of Marketing that consisted of almost an hour of them talking about the company and maybe 5 min of me discussing my skills and previous roles. There was then a face-to-face interview that started off with a 60 min. test that had to be taken there (I have taken these behavioral tests before, but they were always sent via link and completed before the face-to-face interview). The entire in-person interview was an extension of the phone interview and was over 4 hours long with multiple individuals. It consisted of me rarely being afforded the opportunity to speak which combined might add up to 15-20 min for the entire duration. Again, little was asked about my skills, previous experience or how and what I could bring to the table. The whole process felt very antiquated and frankly for a business that operates in the marine technology sector they were all very much behind the times on technology and general best practices (which could be the nature of the business). Before the interview they were very receptive and called/emailed multiple times but after it took me reaching out multiple times to receive any kind of follow-up information. I ultimately withdrew my candidacy for the reasons I have outlined in this review.
While there are some positive aspects of the company there are also some negatives.
Positives: Pension plan, little employee turnover and family owned
Negatives: No PTO if starting after July....so basically you would work approx. 40% of the year with no PTO just unpaid time (IF things are pre-scheduled), family owned (notice this is a pro and a con...owner is very involved and wants children to be involved, which IMO if not done diligently can breed nepotism), niche industry that operates on somewhat antiquated technology (due to regulations and/or company culture), seemingly inefficient (I noticed a dozen things just upon an initial assessment that could be done to bring about operational efficiency) and bizarre company culture
There is no much low hanging fruit that anyone will be able to make an impact, but will also have an uphill battle due to the current administration being out-of-touch with current tactics, practices and design aesthetics. A person could spend a lot of time just getting the organization up-to-speed, but as far as professional growth there isn’t a strong (if any) base to lean on as you would be leaps and bounds ahead of most of the people I met.

Applied online using LinkedIn apply. I heard back from HR within 3 weeks via email to set up a screening phone call. The initial phone screening was 30 minutes long. I heard back from HR the following week about coming in for an interview with the hiring manager. The interview consisted of an online assessment which took 45 minutes, and an hour interview with the hiring manager.
