      Entretien

Step 1: Initial HR Contact I was contacted by a recruiter from Lokalise via LinkedIn. This was followed by an introductory call that covered standard HR topics such as my professional background, notice period, salary expectations, and cultural fit. The communication was fast and efficient, and within a few hours, I was invited to the next stage. Step 2: Technical Interview The second round was a technical interview with an unusual format. Instead of writing code, I was asked to perform a pull request (PR) review on a pre-written codebase. Three people joined the call, but one of them kept their camera off and remained silent throughout the interview. This silent observation made me feel quite uncomfortable. It gave me the impression that this might reflect their internal work environment—possibly involving the use of tracking or monitoring tools to oversee employees without direct interaction. During the PR review, I noticed that the interviewers seemed to expect very specific responses. While I suggested alternative solutions that I believed were valid, these were not well received. It felt like they had predefined answers in mind, and any deviation from those wasn’t encouraged. Overall, the experience felt rigid and gave me the impression of a workplace culture that prioritizes control over collaboration.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this detailed feedback about your interview experience with Lokalise. We’re really happy to hear that you found the initial communication smooth and efficient — that’s something we care a lot about. At the same time, we’re sorry to hear that parts of the technical interview didn’t meet your expectations. We understand your concern about having an extra person silently observing during the call. We sometimes include colleagues in interviews as part of our training and shadowing program, and we’ll make sure to communicate this more clearly going forward so candidates feel fully comfortable and know what to expect. Regarding the PR review format, our aim is to create a realistic discussion around engineering decisions rather than look for a single “right” answer. Your feedback is a good reminder for us to keep these conversations as open as possible and to make sure candidates feel their perspectives are heard and valued. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts — it really helps us improve. Wishing you all the best in your next steps!
