So these guys have a great idea, but it's hardly scalable in its current professional services form factor. Cyber security has become front and center of primary fraud risk mitigation for corporates large and small. As a seasoned cash management/treasury professional I appreciate their message and cyber security awareness they spread in the industry. However, working for a start-up often comes with its own set of risks. While KnowBe4 had received two solid financing rounds recently, their market channel is quite dated - they cold call companies and there's a small army of phone sales people in their Clearwater HQ. It has the feel and look of an old fashioned boiler room. The most recent KKR funding round boosted KB4's liquidity reserves and allowed for some incremental international expansion along the same old model - local service teams delivering cyber security training to local companies. When I brought up the notion of another more lucrative market - corporate and finco annual/quarterly cyber audit compliance - members of the interviewing team got outright hostile to my idea. Putting together Saas type product and charging corporate subscribers annual recurring membership fee can be a much better model going forward. Saas platform economics are known to be vastly superior to that of the call-center type of marketing and professional service model, with sticky customer retention rates. Unfortunately, the company lacks the necessary entrepreneurial spirit and cultural fiber for an open minded assessment of new ideas and opportunities. While it positions itself as a start-up, the internal culture is that of a Fortune 100 mature firm. They are not willing to hear new ideas, or take anyone's input into even preliminary strategic planning. Which is unfortunate, as their core cyber security know-how is excellent (from what I hear), and could be distributed to a more premium market strata at must lower variable cost through Saas type solution, in addition to their ongoing seminar type of support services. In any case, as KnowBe4 is scaling up and possibly hiring more senior finance roles soon, please do your own research and see if company's culture aligns with their current maturity trajectory, considering they are already somewhat of a bogey and like 100 years old in start-up years. Liked their service, but not their internal culture.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

One of the more unprepared questions was "describe your perfect job". When you have an experienced professional come out for an interview, discuss specifics not hypothetical situations.

I do not want to come off too direct, but need to clarify some misconceptions or inconsistencies in your feedback. This company was founded and has run since day one as a SaaS solution. Everything we do is based on scalability. We have been cash flow positive for more than 6 years. (Investment capital is used for acquisitions.) We do not do a “boiler room” type sale to local customers and provide a local service. The fact that you brought up the “new idea” of SaaS model like it would be something we never heard of likely made the interviewers question the level of research you did before visiting us. We are the clear leader in the Security Awareness Training sector with almost 25,000 organizations across the globe using our platform on a daily basis to train millions of end users. I wholeheartedly agree that future applicants should do research before coming in to interview with us.
