My video interview was canceled when I told the Kelly recruiter that my home office is located in my livingroom, which is a very quiet, aesthetically pleasing space with no media center or through traffic. This is where I've worked from home for five years, day and night without distraction or interruption. Nowhere in their advertisement or post-application emails does it say a home office with a door that closes is a strict requirement, but apparently this is the case. I have been offered an opportunity to reschedule the interview when I've relocated my office to a spare room with a door. I am not thrilled about the prospect of moving my office, but I am keenly interested in an entry-level technical support position. This one seemed perfect until I was dismissed for lack of a door.

Typically, the first interview is the first face-to-face meeting with your potential employer. Their goal is to get to know you and assess your skills and experience in relation to their needs for this particular role. They're also looking to get to know you to determine if you will fit in with the company's culture.
