JHU APL paid for my flight and rental car and two nights at the Doubletree. This was for a two-day interview. I presented my thesis research at 11am on the first day. Overall I met with 7 different research groups over the 2 days. Some of the research groups seemed like a good fit, others did not. I enjoyed the interview experience. No specific technical challenge questions or coding challenges, just a nice grown up discussion of my research, and their needs and how they would fit together.

Question 1
Nothing was really out of left field. Standard stuff asking me to describe my research and to describe situations where I had challenges and how I dealt with them.

Apply online. Some HR person reaches out with an interview packet consisting of compensation. Consisted of a 1-hour-long talk to a general audience of interested team members, followed by interviews with several interested groups at the company. Team members from each group interview with you.
Afterwards you rank the groups based on who you fit in best with, and HR goes down the list asking whether or not they want you (if not then a comment on why). The first group gets to extend an offer.

Overall a good experience. There was a brief phone screening to make sure I was who I claimed to be, and I was then flown out to Laurel for an interview with the group. Everyone seemed really nice and extremely satisfied with their current position.

They were mainly describing the benefits of working there. Brief overview of my experience and past projects, but no "real" technical questions were asked.
