The interview questions were behavioral in nature. The interview process was very standard for a designer position. However, what was not standard is a company asking an interviewee to design a product solution for their product with ZERO compensation. This should not be an industry practice and against advice from a colleague, I completed it.
The last two interviews really focused on discussing the design challenge. Many of these same questions, could be answered by reviewing and discussing portfolio projects. This entire process felt like a lot of diversity boxes were being checked in addition to free design solutions for their product.
They gave ZERO feedback about their final decision. To ask people to take hours out of their lives for a design challenge and interviews but provide zero feedback other than "we choose someone else" is a wasteful and highly unprofessional.
