I participated in a job shadow with Investopedia and was very impressed with the work culture. They seem to put a lot of stock in empowering their employees to work together to achieve the goals set out and to honestly ask for feedback about what's working and what isn't so the team can constantly adapt their workflow to meet their needs. Really good feedback loop, good team dynamic, with a lot of clear communication of where they are, where they aim to be, etc. The meetings were short and succinct instead of protracted and sloppy as some meetings tend to get. They held a lunch and learn where one of their teams presented on what they've been working on to the others in a group. It felt simultaneously planned and yet informal as they shared details of how they got to where they were today, what they learned along the way, and more. Every person I spoke with was kind, approachable, and more than happy to answer questions about their job (both the position at the company but even about where they fit in the field). There's definitely the sense that this place has got some great talent and keeps them engaged. The buzz of the room was that of a fast paced environment but people generally appeared stress free and collected under the circumstances. They've got a couch and game box in the kitchen that I found myself playing briefly toward to the end of the day. My impression is that Investopedia is committed to creating a workplace where it's commonplace to have these short organic breaks where someone might grab a coworker to play a quick round of Golden Eye 007 on N64 as opposed to being strictly business focused and drab.
