I applied online for a cashier position. In a bout 13 days or so I received a call from a lady in HR. I missed the call so she left me a message. We played a bit of phone tag but eventually she called me in less than 48 hours and we had a brief phone interview.
I passed the phone interview so she asked me to come in to the IKEA Coworker Hiring Event, which was the next day. I went in, dressed business casual, and it was about 13 other people in there as well.
Along with the other 13 people, there was four/five managers present. We were partnered up and asked to give two presentations. The first one was a getting-to-know-you task, where you had to introduce your neighbor. The other one was they gave you an object and you had to sell it to the managers. All while they evaluated you. So during this time it is important to stand out and communicate well.
After the group interview sessions, we were asked to fill out some paperwork. For background checks, application, general information, etc. During this time the managers began taking people back for a one on one interview. The interview was about 20 minutes. They asked you general interview questions such as "Tell me a time when you had to work with new employees" or "tell me a time when you had to take on an extra responsibility at work." I suggest you be efficient and brief at this time.
After the 1:1 interview, you turn in your paperwork and they tell you they will call you in about a week.
They were very friendly and well organized.
