Resume and Portfolio Review: Start by reviewing the candidate's resume and portfolio. Look for relevant experience, projects, and the quality of their work. Phone Screening: Conduct an initial phone screening to discuss the candidate's background, experience, and career goals. Ask high-level questions to gauge their enthusiasm for the role and organization. Design Test (Optional): If applicable, provide the candidate with a design task or test to complete within a specified time frame. This can be particularly useful for assessing their design skills. First On-Site or Video Interview: This interview is often conducted by a recruiter or HR representative. Assess cultural fit, motivation, and high-level behavioral questions. Discuss the candidate's design philosophy and approach to design projects. Design Presentation (Optional): Ask the candidate to present a project from their portfolio. This is an opportunity for them to showcase their communication skills and explain their design process. Technical or Design Skills Interview: Conduct a technical or design skills interview with a senior designer or design lead. Ask the candidate to discuss their design projects in more detail. Assess their design thinking, problem-solving abilities, and how they approach challenges. Include questions related to design tools, best practices, and methodologies. Behavioral Interview: Assess the candidate's soft skills and cultural fit. Ask behavioral questions to understand how they collaborate with teams, handle feedback, and communicate with stakeholders. Cross-Functional Interview: Involve team members from other departments, such as developers, product managers, or marketers, to evaluate the candidate's ability to collaborate across teams. Values and Cultural Fit Interview: Assess whether the candidate aligns with the company's values and culture. Discuss the company's mission and vision. Questions from the Candidate: Allow the candidate to ask questions about the company, team, and the role. Reference Checks: Contact the candidate's references to gather insights about their work, character, and previous experiences.
