      Entretien

I filled out a short online application. I was contacted two days later for a phone screener which I passed. I was then told my application was being pushed up to the next step and I was scheduled for a test clean the following week.

Homejoy's interview meeting took place a couple hours from my home. The meeting was from 11-1pm. There were no snacks or water given even though it was over the lunch hour. That was OK, just seemed like since it wasn't a morning or afternoon meeting that they would provide a doughnut or something. I passed the phone interview and the in-person interview. Last step was the home cleaning eval. I went to a house (a couple hours away again) with a rep from HomeJoy and we cleaned for 4 1/2 hours together. I mean really working hard and quickly and it took that long. The rep said it was a very dirty house. The next day they called and said I didn't get the job due to not having enough product knowledge (regarding various cleaning supplies). I found the whole process to be disheartening. Having to spend the gas money to drive to another city several times (4 hours/day) was very costly in my current situation. Then cleaning a house for over 4 hours for absolutely nothing. It seems like Home Joy is just cheap and they want the workers to "earn" their way into their company. I don't have money that's why I am looking for a job. Most companies pay for a "training session". So the fact that they would use my labor to clean a house for that long and then walk away and leave me with nothing but less gas money and all the time spent was frustrating...and really not courteous or responsible towards the folks that are financially struggling.
