Lots of jockying, cant interview for the job you want, recruiters have to go back and forth before they even let you interview for the job. Instgram problem Design an API for a plugable service to allow people to make there own scheduling constraints build a simple xml parser Came in for a 5 hour on site. I could tell right off the bat that 1 person was going to review me unfavorably just by the way they cooked the scenario against me. When they did not agree with my answer did not ask for more detail or explanation just kinda said "really?". Scenarios were mostly vague and abstract no one said what they really wanted. Hiring manager just asked very general questions about unit testing. Grub hub had me read a ton of material that no one referneced AT ALL. Reading it all was even a larger waste of time then the interview. Never said why I did not do well on the interview, something like "good but not good enough, maybe a position on another team, but those jobs are only in another state would you move?" Once they are done with you they just dead you really fast, cant even just give you a nice phone call. When your in the process they are like "soo helpful" and when your at the tail end they wont get back to you and you have to call them like 6 times to get a no. Then 1 month later some other recruiter cold calls you about the jobs that supposedly only exist in NY. Big liars. Say anything to get you in and then on the way out just make up lie after lie about why its taking so long hoping you go away.

It was a lengthier interview process than I was used to but it felt right in the end, it touched upon all the right areas and domains to ensure alignment.

There was 2 phone interviews and then a video interview. During the video interview it was incredibly clear that the interviewer did not enjoy his job and it sounds like the engineering org is bogged down with red tape. Additionally we had to reschedule twice because critical production issues came up.... concerning for culture. So I declined further interviews

Interviewed for an Front-End Engineering Manager role in April 2021. The on-site consisted of five hours of calls spread across two days. The technical recruiter indicated several times during preparation that no coding would be necessary, but instead there would be one round of high-level discussion around architecture / whiteboarding, or potentially, identifying a bug in existing code. As I'm not in the weeds in my current role in terms of React.js specific syntax, I felt comfortable with proceeding with the process as described. The first round was immediately a CodePen/code-sharing exercise in React.js, which was surprising given this was explicitly mentioned would not be the case. No verbal cues or hints were given from the interviewer(s), nor was the option, or expressed permission, to reference documentation. We ended up ceasing the coding portion early and just had a stilted discussion on CI/CD and automated testing for the remainder of that round. The following rounds were project/process-focused or behavioral assessment type conversations with an Engineering Manager, Product Director, VP of engineering, and the hiring manager, all of whom were extremely personable and informative. I was told a decision would be made after all of the panel’s feedback was submitted early the following week. Toward the end of the next week, I was informed via a phone call from the recruiter that I would not be getting an offer due to a “huge technical gap”, despite mentioning positive feedback from the other interviewers. It’s unfortunate there was no attempt to request a subsequent coding sample, or even a glance at my personal Github repo, to confirm technical prowess given there was only one outlier round. Misinforming candidates and being so reliant on unanimous consensus indicates a flaw in the hiring process itself and will likely result in overlooking quality candidates.
