J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Greenhouse Software (New York, NY)
Entretien
Overall, I had an excellent experience interviewing at Greenhouse. Everyone I spoke with was direct, communicative, and transparent throughout the process.
I first spoke with the HR recruiter, who asked thoughtful questions about my experience and walked me through the hiring process. Next, I met with the Hiring Manager, where I presented a case study. Finally, I had a whiteboarding session with two members of the product team.
I genuinely felt the company’s values reflected in every interaction.

PROS:
• Clear interview process, provided in a slide deck before the first call.
• Available to answer questions
• Quick to respond to questions
• Interviewer gave me the time of day— the first call went over time, but they were offered to stay longer to make room for questions and clarifications
• Defined problem areas for the role (ie. modernizing design culture) — I can't overstate how helpful this is in preparing for and communicating in an interview.
• Quick to let me down:
After experiencing a 4-month long interview process, it was a breath of fresh air when they let me down quickly. They contacted me to let me know 2–3 business days after my interview.
---
GOOD-TO-KNOW (SOME OF THEM COULD BE CONS):
• Hiring multiple people for the position, but with different focus areas— it wasn't clear which they were considering me for.
• It seems like Greenhouse has a strong work culture. That can be a great thing, but I think any cons come from how a strong culture can be difficult for outsiders to access. For example:
↳ Cam-off for the first Zoom call (not communicated beforehand). This took pressure off the call in the moment. But in settings I've worked in, web calls defaulted to visual; otherwise we'd pick up the phone. This makes me wonder if cam-off is part of Greenhouse's workplace culture.
↳ Occasional jargon. Not a concern, but a minor contradiction of Greenhouse's value of inclusivity. "POC" and a couple other acronyms stood out.
↳ The product org structure may be challenging to understand without a visual— with topic/project-related teams and sub-teams, forming across disciplines:
I had to ask for clarity a number of times on the team structure, and wasn't afraid to sound dumb. This is a strength in user interviews, but likely got me some demerits. It didn't help that there would be two hires each on different teams.

OVERALL:
Overall it was a positive and transparent experience, and I would recommend the process to any potential candidate or applicant.
