The STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) format is a job interview technique used by interviewers to gather all the relevant information about a specific capability that the job requires. This interview format is said[by whom?] to have a higher degree of predictability of future on-the-job performance than the traditional interview. This technique is a behavioral interview technique. Situation: The interviewer wants you to present a recent challenge and situation in which you found yourself. Task: What did you have to achieve? The interviewer will be looking to see what you were trying to achieve from the situation. Action: What did you do? The interviewer will be looking for information on what you did, why you did it and what the alternatives were. Results: What was the outcome of your actions? What did you achieve through your actions and did you meet your objectives? What did you learn from this experience and have you used this learning since?

The interview process went quickly. I applied and within three days someone called me. I received an offer within two weeks of my initial application. After the offer; however, I wanted to discuss the salary, because I did not see that it matched my skill level. The recruiter was short and vague and made it sound like a take it or leave it. Unfortunately, I was not in a position to turn down a job offer at the time, so I reluctantly took it without any sort of increase on Grainger's end. They made it clear I was to start two weeks after the offer, but after I accepted, she called me back and told me I wasn't going to start for 7 WEEKS. A week before I was supposed to start (the pushed back date) I got another called and they pushed it back yet another week. How disappointing! Grainger needs to be clear UP FRONT on their start dates - I have to feed my kids! The recruiter was 100% non-negotiable with the salary, and then on top of that I started almost two months after I was supposed to. It was a very poor start to my job with the company, but like I said earlier, I was not in a position to turn down a job. Unfortunately they tied my hands for me and I felt pretty cheated. I found out very quickly that in corporate America, you are tossed around like a poker chip.
