Quite standard: I went through a few interview stages, starting with an initial conversation, followed by a practical design task, and then a final cultural interview focused on collaboration, communication, working style, and team fit.

The interview process consisted of 3 stages: an initial 30 minute interview with a senior designer, a 2 hour design challenge (app critique + whiteboard challenge) and a values interview. The initial screening interview was fairly standard, got asked the usual questions one would expect at a design interview. When I was told they liked me enough to progress to the next round, I did the role values interview next which consisted of 2 non-designers interviewing me to gauge a culture fit. Some of the questions asked were corny like “What is your superpower” which to be honest felt contrived and forced at best. Also the two interviewers seemed like they were just asking me the questions because they were tasked to do so; a little more enthusiasm and passion would have made the experience more memorable rather than it feeling like it was just a task to be done. I did have a positive experience doing the remote design challenge though (2 hour app critique followed by a sketching session). This was done with a panel of 4 people from the product team who were friendly and easy to talk to. While I ultimately did not get an offer because of how I did during the challenge (time management), I appreciated the comprehensive feedback I got afterwards. The challenge was pretty intense and even though I didn’t perform as well it was good practise to flex my design skills.
