      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Going

      Entretien

I made it through to the end of the interview process and was one of the last candidates but there were two major red flags: - I was transparent in stating that I had been laid off in my last role when my entire team was dissolved by my then-employer. However, one of the Going execs had asked a contact at my then-employer, and that person had not been aware of the team dissolution. As a result, I was treated and and questioned like I was dishonest, even at the end of the interview process where I was a final candidate. Trusting misinformed hearsay over the candidate and assuming honesty was a major red flag, and it was re-traumatizing after having experienced the layoffs. - I was also questioned (re: made suspicious) about why I had selected "No" to the question regarding U.S. work authorization as a foreign national eligible for work authorization. Even though I am a foreign national, I do not require sponsorship to work in the United States. The problem here is two parts: when job seeking, there are many cases of auto-rejection when a candidate selects "Yes" to that question, so in the case where one does not require sponsorship, it does not make sense to self-select out of the process. In addition, this question as a whole is exclusionary for foreign talent that can benefit American companies and is already a systemic barrier. Using this as an "honesty test" is inappropriate when it is meant to be exclusionary in an uneducated binary yes/no manner. It shows a lack of empathy and understanding for the few spectrum of talent, and weaponizing a lack of education on the topic is toxic.

Thank you for your candid feedback regarding your interview experience. We truly value the time and effort you invested in the process and appreciate your transparency in sharing these concerns. We aim to continually improve our hiring practices, and your input is crucial in helping us achieve that goal. We operate on a basis of trust at Going and do not verify employment status beyond the application responses, nor have we conducted backchannel references for this position. We regret any misunderstanding that suggested otherwise and will review our communication practices to prevent future occurrences. We recognize that the binary nature of the U.S. work authorization question can lead to confusion. Your feedback is instrumental, and we will review our approach to make our hiring process more inclusive and fair. Please know that we are still actively interviewing for the position, and the decision-making process has not yet concluded. At this stage, no one has been designated a ‘final candidate’, and we continue to consider all applicants fairly based on their qualifications and fit for the role. We apologize for any distress this experience may have caused you, especially given your recent job circumstances. Going is committed to an equitable and respectful hiring process, and your feedback is a vital part of our efforts to improve. Thank you once again for your feedback and for considering a career here. We value your insights and are committed to learning from them.
